About our bin grading system:
*Our grading system is based on Quality so on
each board in our bins you will find an end marked from left to right with
the "board footage", "grade", "specie" and "length". The "Q" stands for
quality, "W" designates 8" or wider, "S" stands for special flat straight
and clear both faces, the number "1" is a trim grade clear 1 face and 2
edges and may have a defect, the number "2" is a woodworking grade with at
least 1 defect and maybe not straight, "Z" designates twist or problem
board.
*QQ stands for Quartersawn Quality.
*Flooring Grades and Rustic Grades will have the
numbers "3", "4" and "5" with "5" being a usable knotty board with
more defects.
It is very difficult to price and grade Cherry
for instance. Consider our normal grading rules then add in "Color" for
pricing. Color sorts are a necessary added cost for some species especially
Cherry and the Maples but others like Ash and even Oak as well.
Comparitive, competitive pricing is always
difficult when adding in color along with grade.
